Non-ELIN Computer Use Policy
- Non-ELIN computers are identified as the last three computers on the computer
desks. They are available for word processor applications (i.e., Microsoft Word),
spreadsheet applications (i.e., Excel), and other office applications. They
may also be used to search online databases provided by the Woolworth Community
Library and to search databases provided through the ELIN consortium.
- Patrons must sign in at the Circulation Desk to use non-ELIN computers and
provide the following information: number of computer to be used, date of use,
time session begins, intended use of the computer, and time the session ends.
- Non-ELIN computers are not available for email sessions or for internet
searching except for online databases provided by the library. Please use one
of the first four ELIN computers for this purpose. Improper internet use on
these computers will terminate your session and result in suspension from computer
use for a length of time determined by library staff.
- Users may save to a diskette; diskettes may be purchased from the library
for one (1) dollar.
- Staff will provide only minimal computer instruction; children should have
a computer-literate supervisor available or be able to perform computer tasks
without assistance.
- Only one (1) person will be allowed at each computer unless special permission
is given by the library staff.
- There is a charge of ten (10) cents for each page printed that exceeds ten
(10) pages per day. Excessive printing may be limited at the library's discretion.
No color printing is available; print jobs may be collected at the circulation
desk.
Circulation Policy
Adults:
- Patrons will be required to recognize a three-week trial period upon receiving
a new library card. Checkouts during that time will be limited to:
- One (1) videocassette at a time (2-day checkout period)
- One (1) audiobook at a time (3-week checkout period)
- Two (2) books at a time (3-week checkout period)
- At the conclusion of the trial period the following circulation policy applies:
- Three (3) videocassettes at a time (2-day checkout period)
- No limit on audiobooks or books (3-week checkout period)
Students (Grade 7-12):
- Patrons will be required to recognize a three-week trial period upon receiving
a new library card. Checkouts during that time will be limited to:
- One (1) videocassette at a time (2-day checkout period)
- One (1) audiobook at a time (3-week checkout period)
- No limit on books (3-week checkout period)
- At the conclusion of the trial period the following circulation policy applies:
- Three (3) videocassettes at a time (2-day checkout period)
- No limit on audiobooks or books (3-week checkout period)
Children (K-6th grade):
- Checkouts for children are limited to books and books with cassettes. Children
are not allowed to check out videocassettes.
- Patrons will be required to recognize a three-week trial period upon receiving
a new library card. Checkouts during that time will be limited to three (3)
items at a time (3-week checkout period).
- At the conclusion of the trial period the following circulation policy applies:
a limit of five (5) items at a time (3-week checkout period).
- Library materials may be renewed one time if the item has no holds. Additional
renewals are at the discretion of the library staff.
Overdue charges:
- Videocassettes:
- Fifty (50) cents per day
- Maximum fine per item - $1.00
- No grace period
- Books and audiobooks:
- Five (5) cents per day
- Maximum fine per item - $1.00
- One-week grace period
How to Obtain a Library Card
Adults:
- Must show driver's license
- Must provide a postmarked piece of mail that can confirm the address
- Must complete and sign an application form
- Must provide a local reference
- Must give place of employment if employed
Students:
- Must be enrolled in the Jal Junior High or Jal High School
- Must complete and sign an application form
Children:
- Children must be at least six (6) years of age
- The parent or guardian of the child must:
- Have a current library card
- Complete and sign an application form for the child
Lost cards may be replaced at a cost of $5.00.
Rules for Internet Use
- The first four (4) computers as you enter the library may be used for internet
searching. Do not use the other computers for this purpose.
- The library provides internet access as a reference. Please check the library's
holdings to find material you need.
- The library's public internet workstations may be used for browsing and
e-mail but are not to be used for listserv, multi-user groups, chat groups,
or other similar internet functions.
- The library's internet workstations are openly visible to the general public,
which includes minors. Exposing minors to sexually oriented materials is a
violation of the NEW MEXICO STATUTES, 19878, ANNOTATED (CH.30, ART.37). Violators
will be prohibited from using the library's computers for entertainment browsing
for the period of one (1) full year. Local law enforcement officials may also
be notified.
- You must sign in and sign out at the front desk and give a statement of
intended use for your internet session. NO one will be allowed on the internet
fifteen (15) minutes before closing time.
- There is a time limit of thirty (30) minutes unless no one is waiting for
an available computer. Research browsing takes precedence over entertainment
browsing.
- Users may purchase diskettes from the library for one (1) dollar each or
may use a diskette from outside the library.
- There is a charge of ten (10) cents for each page printed that exceeds ten
(10) pages. Excessive printing may be limited at the library's discretion.
- Children under Junior High age will not be allowed to use the computers
for internet searching without a "computer knowledgeable" parent
or guardian attending the child at all times during the session.
- Only one (1) person at each computer unless special permission is given
by library staff.
- Excessive noise or inappropriate use of the computer will terminate your
session.
- Games are not allowed via the internet.
